I think that's what I've been doing for the last seven months. The trips to the office are a killer (I will never stop saying this) but somehow when I get to the office, the energy kicks in and the wheels start turning, my head starts filling up with ideas and it's a non-stop train ride til 4 pm when the bus comes to ferry us home.
It's a great experience. I like being able to explore possibilities in a place that offers recognition for innovation. It adds to my self-esteem, definitely, and confidence in my abilities. And I guess I like the structure. It gives me a sense of order, and accountability. There's a heirarchy but it doesn't really assert itself except when it comes to protocols in approving forms, approving budgets etc. But the really important things, like sharing ideas, giving feedback and challenging authority are all carried out like there was no boss. And that's how the culture is enriched.
The culture of an organization is what keeps it growing (aside from revenue of course). If a culture of excellence exists, its people and its products will always find ways to innovate and excel, and then its employees feel fulfilled and become more creative. Then the cycle feeds on itself.
And I think it's a good thing. People like me just need to learn to stop working when they day's over.
